Dr. Crusher

Can some one please tell me the reason why Dr. Crusher left the TNG
early on, and they return a few years later? I never heard any
explaination for this. Did Gates McFadden try to go into other project
and couldn't make it? Thanks.

One story i heard, was that Gates was sacked for not putting out for some
bigwig in Paramount, later bigwig finished so she could come back to show.

This is only a rumour i heard in a convention years ago, i do not know how
true this is.
